Ashtead Independents Party Rules

Associate membership shall be open to Ashtead residents aged 16 years or more, who are not members of any national political party.

Rules

1. Membership

 

1.1.- Membership of the party shall be open only to persons who are not members  of any national political party and shall comprise

 

  • Persons who are sitting councillors representing Ashtead wards on Mole Valley District Council or the Ashtead Division of Surrey County Council (or equivalent seats in any successor authority)

  • The Officers of the party.

 

1.2.- Persons who are not members of any national political party may be co-opted  into membership, with full voting rights. All co-opted members shall retire at the Party’s Annual General Meeting, and are eligible again for co-option.

 

2. Associate membership

 

2.1.- Associate membership shall be open to Ashtead residents aged 16 years or more, who are not members of any national political party.

 

2.2.- Associate Members shall have no voting rights.

 

3. Officers

 

3.1.- The officers shall be

  • Leader

  • Nominations Officer

  • Treasurer

  • Any further posts if required by new legislation

 

3.2.- More than one post may be held by the same person.

 

3.3.- All officers will retire at the end of the party’s AGM and are eligible for re-   election.
 

4. Meetings

 

4.1.- The Party shall hold an Annual General Meeting each year in May, as soon after local elections (if any) as possible.

 

4.2.- Other meetings may be called by the Leader, or by at least three members, with 14 days notice to all members.
 

4.3.- Except as provided elsewhere, all decisions shall be taken by a simple              majority of those present.

 

5. Finance

 

5.1.- There will be no fixed subscription rates

 

5.2.- Arrangement will be made for systems to record donations from members,    Associate members and other persons or where legally permissible.

 

5.3.- Accounts will be maintained in such form as will ensure compliance with          government requirements.

 

6. Amendments to Constitution and Rules

 

6.1.- Amendments to the Constitution and/or Rules require a two-thirds majority of all Members, rounded up.

 

6.2.- Members not able to be present shall be given the opportunity of registering a vote, in writing, including by electronic means.
