With effect from April 2027, both Surrey County Council and Mole Valley District Council will cease to exist. For our area there will be a new ‘Unitary’ Council – East Surrey– covering all of Mole Valley plus neighbouring Elmbridge and Epsom & Ewell, as well as Reigate & Banstead and Tandridge.
On 7 May this year there will be elections to this new East Surrey council. The new council will begin to take over responsibilities from both SCC and MVDC, with East Surrey assuming control at the end of April 2027, at which point SCC and MVDC will be abolished.
Ashtead will have just two places on the new and it is vitally important that our village is represented by experienced councillors with an understanding of local government. They will need to be able to work with other groups on the new council to ensure that Ashtead’s interests are properly represented, free from national party politics. It is also essential that they are local people who are aware of local needs.
Ashtead Independents have chosen Chris Hunt and Andy Smith as our candidates for the two places on the new Council. They are both current councillors for Ashtead on Mole Valley Council and have the experience and local commitment that is needed.
You have two votes in this election; please use both for Ashtead Independents. Please vote for Chris Hunt and Andy Smith.
