Ashtead Independent Councillors are extremely concerned about the new Government's recently published revisions to the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF), particularly the proposal to re-classify some Green Belt land as 'Grey Belt' and the proposed changes to how local housing requirements are calculated which threaten a significant increase in the amount of new housing being imposed on Mole Valley.
We view this combination of policies as potentially very damaging to our environment and quality of life if implemented here in the north of the district where we have already been required to release some Green Belt land for housing on the Ashtead-Leatherhead border.
Ashtead Independents will be providing input to the Government's NPPF consultation in the coming weeks, and we are pressing Mole Valley Council and its Liberal Democrat administration to take a stronger stand in defence of our Green Belt and against the imposition of unnecessary and excessive housebuilding targets. We will be posting more about the NPPF consultation shortly.
